2014 Fifth International Business School Shanghai Conference successfully helded by Antai College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University
More than 260 deans and distinguished guests of over 160 leading business schools and institutions from 5 continents, 38 countries and regions attended the Fifth International Business School Shanghai Conference on October 9-10, 2014. The Conference was hosted by Antai College of Economics & Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). SJTU Chairperson of the University Council Jiang Sixian, SJTU President Zhangjie and SJTU Deputy Party Secretary Zhu Jian participated in this event.
Focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship, the Fifth International Business School Shanghai Conference gathered deans from leading business schools all around the world to speak about innovation and entrepreneurship, to share wisdom and experiences, to absorb innovation conception and to seek more possibilities for cooperation and practices on a global scale.
Jiang Sixian, SJTU Chairperson of the University Council extended his warm welcome to all guests over the welcome dinner on October 9th. “Education innovation is not only a challenge to China, but also a concerned issue facing all educational institutions on a global scale”, Jiang commented in his welcome speech, “We must research and improve the overall innovation of higher education under the guidance of a brand new value of education.”
In the opening ceremony on October 10th, President Zhang Jie, on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, congratulated the successful opening of this conference. “In the process of becoming a comprehensive, research-oriented, and internationalized first-rate university, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has committed to stand in the forefront of education in terms of science, technology, and innovation, and to devote major efforts to foster promoters and practitioners of innovation and entrepreneurship. As a leading business school in China, Antai College of Economics & Management is playing a crucial role in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship”, commented President Zhang.
“After 30 years’ booming development, China is now experiencing a a slower rate of economic growth”, Professor Zhou Lin, dean of Antai College of Economics & Management, SJTU, elaborated the setting background of the theme of this year, “so we should take actions to keep growth, and to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. Both of them are important topics to business schools.”
The two-day conference had some distinctive features. In the formal opening ceremony and plenary session “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” held on October 10th, deans of top business schools such as Fuqua School of business of Duke University (USA), Johnson Graduates School of Management of Cornell University (USA), ESADE Business School (Spain), and Guanghua School of Management of Peking University (P. R. China) delivered keynote speeches. When it came to the corporate speech in the afternoon, Mr.Yu Gang, Chairman of Yihaodian, shared his experience of how to manage an innovative company. After his speech, two sub-forums held in-depth discussions under the topic “Why Business School’s Innovation Education is Driving Sustainable Development” and “Global Perspectives: Business School’s Education on Entrepreneurship”. As warm-up of the conference, two pre-sessions, “New International Accreditation for New Management Education Era” and “Future of Management Education: Emerging Opportunities for Asian B-schools” were held in the afternoon on October 9th. Guests from famous B-school membership organizations like AACSB, EFMD, AMBA and representative from China’s Ministry of Education in charge of China Advanced Management Education Accreditation discussed new accreditation standards from varied perspectives, and explored how globalization and technology improvement are changing the global business and management formation.
