     “Doing Business in China: Opportunities and Challenges” Lecture

     Shanghai Information Session for the Tsinghua-INSEAD
          
           dual degree Executive MBA

        “To miss today’s China is to miss the great opportunity for this generation”. The business climate in China is transforming dramatically. Markets are opening, foreign investment is increasing, and the country is adapting to its new status as a member of the World Trade Organization. What are the opportunities and challenges to do business in China today?

        On 14 September, Professor Daokui(David)Li, Dean of the Department of Finance, School of Economics and Management(SEM) of Tsinghua University, who is also director of the Center for China in the World Economy(CCWE), and one of the top 10 economists having major influence on government decision-making, will give a presentation and dialog in Shanghai on the subject of “Doing Business in China: Opportunities and Challenges”.

       At the same time, Associate Director of the EMBA program SEM will also share with you the distinctive advantages of the dual degree EMBA program jointly run by SEM Tsinghua and the world’s prestigious business school INSEAD.

David Daokui Li is currently Mansfield Freeman Chair Professor of economics, Changjiang Reward Program Professor of China’s Ministry of Eduction, and the director of Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE) at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University. 

         Before joining Tsinghua, he had been on the faculty of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1999-2004) and the University of Michigan (1992-1999). From 1997 to 1998, he was a National Fellow of Hoover Institution at Stanford University.  
        His research areas include economic development, the Chinese economy, applied economic theory, corporate finance, and international economics. His research on the Chinese economy covers China’s state enterprise reform, property rights arrangements of non-state enterprises, reform of government agencies, and China’s banking sector reform. 
       From 2001 to 2002, David Li was the president of the Chinese Economists Society (CES), which is an association of overseas Chinese economists based in North America. From 2000 to 2003, he was on the editorial board of Journal of Comparative Economics. He is currently on the editorial board of China Economic Review. He is also a research fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) based in Europe, the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan. He is currently a member of the executive committee of the Association for Comparative Economic Studies (ACES).
        Professor Li holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University and a B.E. from the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, where he returned and assumed the current position in July 2004.

Tsinghua-INSEAD Dual Degree EMBA

Dual degrees: The program will be sanctioned by a dual degree granted on the basis of courses grading and thesis defense.

International perspective: Teaching staff will be selected from the most experienced faculty members of both institutions. In order to preserve diversity, the proportion of non-Chinese citizen participants is expected to exceed 50%.

Campus in China, Singapore and France: This program will be held on the campus of Tsinghua SEM, INSEAD Singapore campus and INSEAD Fontainebleau Campus, France.
