SHANGHAI University has teamed up with a local tourism organization to launch a China study tour program for Master of Business Administration students from all over the world.

The move is to provide a better understanding of China's development, said university officials.

The university's management education center signed a partnership pact yesterday with the Shanghai Industrial Tourism Promotion Center, a non-governmental organization for promoting tours of the city's industrial sites.

The program, which is open to business schools throughout the world, will provide tailor-made study trips for foreign MBA or EMBA students who have an interest in China.

Students will visit the industrial tourism promotion center's member factory plants and companies - such as the country's biggest listed steel maker Baosteel Group Co Ltd and the leading information technology player Lenovo China.

University professors will also give lectures to visiting students on Chinese culture, business development, social progress or other topics of interest to foreign students, officials said.

"Rapid development has made China an important research topic for foreign business education institutes, but most people can only learn about China through books, TV programs or the Internet," said Tony Koo, executive director with the SHU's management education center.

"The new program will give these foreign business-leaders-to-be a true and tangible China experience," he added.

Center officials said about five business schools from the United States, New Zealand, Israel and Columbia had been in touch with the center about study trips in the first half of next year.
