MASTER of Business Administration graduates received a fascinating insight into the workings of management buyouts and leverage buyouts during a recent four-day workshop.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship workshop was run by Professor Roland Bel, who has first-hand experience of a successful management buyout.

The workshop was just one example of the cutting-edge Antai-Euromed Marseille MBA program that is ensuring students get the latest business information and strategies. It is one of the top joint MBA programmes in China.

"Professor Bel's lecture opened a door to us through his own experience," says Sophia Liu, AP Corporate Purchasing Manager at Huntsman Polyurethanes Co Ltd.

"His teaching on how to optimize company assets in different stages and evaluation on opportunities and risks impressed us so much, it was as if we were experiencing the same things he did years ago."

After working for more than 20 years in world-renowned companies such as Esso, Hewlett-Packard and Schneider Electric, Professor Bel became one of the main actors in a management buyout that resulted in the creation of MGE UPS Systems, previously an affiliate of Schneider Electric.

The exponential growth of MGE caught the attention of Schneider Electric, who bought back the company in 2004.

Since then, Professor Bel has joined Euromed Marseille Ecole de Management.

He is one of the 60 permanent faculty members of Euromed Marseille, which is one of the top 10 French business schools with both Equis and AMBA international accreditation.

"Professor Bel not only has solid theoretical knowledge in business and management, but also remarkable experience as a top manager and entrepreneur," says Lu Jun, material planning assistant manager for AQ Holmbergs Technology Co Ltd.

"In addition, his career path gives me the inspiration to pursue new career opportunities after my graduation from AEMBA. In the long run, I will explore the opportunity presented by management buyouts, which I had never thought about before. Only after getting out of your box can you see your great potential."

Euromed Marseille's faculty has 11 nationalities and the demand from MBA/EMBA students drives the school to develop strategic alliances with other leading business schools and senior consultants from different continents.

In return, the selection of participants becomes more and more rigorous in its two AEMBA programs - an International MBA and a dual-degree Executive MBA.

Established in 2003, AEMBA, the joint program between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Euromed Marseille, has attracted more than 280 managers. Chinese and international counterparts from all walks of life and diverse professions in different industries study together.

Participants learn via live cases, real strategic projects and prestigious think tanks, with the help of international faculty members and senior consultants. This diverse range of professional experience makes AEMBA a cutting-edge program for businesses on the move. In early November, around 130 MBA/EMBA participants will celebrate their graduation ceremony.

Overseas applicants are also welcome to apply for this programme in China.
