NDRC-HEC EMBA Program Launching Ceremony

Seminar on Sustainable Development Strategy of Enterprises under the Financial Crisis

World-class European business school - HEC Paris has launched in Shanghai, reviving the EMBA market in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone
July 1st, 2009 Shanghai

The Launching Ceremony of NDRC-HEC EMBA Program (Shanghai) and Seminar on Sustainable Development Strategy of Enterprises under the Financial Crisis were held in Shanghai today. This executive EMBA program, delivered by HEC Paris and supported by the Training Center of National Development and Reform Commission (Known as NDRC), was being vigorously pushed in Shanghai.

Since 2002, western business schools have gradually entered into the EMBA market in Shanghai. Nowadays, thirteen officially certificated oversea MBA (EMBA) programs are delivered in Shanghai. The number of oversea business school offices in Shanghai adds up to six. Moreover, competitors from around the world are significantly catching up.  HEC Paris, top business school in Europe for the 3rd consecutive year from 2006 ranked by The Financial Times, attracts annually hundreds of world best management experts and boasts its variety of fine scholarships. The goal of this seminar is to help executives and managers strengthen the strategic development of their enterprises, in order to be more flexible and competitive in the global marketplace.  Moreover, this event has been sponsored by NDRC, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Consulate General of France in Shanghai, etc. Mr. Zhou Bo, Deputy secretary-general of Shanghai Municipal Government, Mr. DU Ping, Director General of the NDRC Training Center and Director of the office of leading Group for International Intellectual Resource Exchange, Mr. Jacques Torregrossa, Commercial Counselor of France in Shanghai and Mr. Bertrand MOINGEON, deputy dean of HEC all delivered speech on the spot. It was agreed that the world economy today is still suffering from the severe impact of the global financial crisis and there is no obvious sign of economic recovery and resolution of the crisis. However, the financial crisis will, in another way, lead to a global reallocation of the capital and resources, which will offer China's economy with both challenges and opportunities during its reforming process. Thus, superior international business programs are under large demands.

Mr. DU Ping, Director General of the NDRC Training Center and Director of the office of leading Group for International Intellectual Resource Exchange, says that the biggest challenge NDRC faces now is not capital fund and technology but the lack of talent. One the one side, it is not easy for graduates land a job today. On the other side, in a lot of large projects which contains immigration of new tech, mergers & acquisitions and cross border transactions, Chinese managers are required to combine international trade skills with the knowledge of the actual conditions in China. However the current education system can not fulfill such demands. That is why we introduced world class training program which shall meet the needs of Chinese executives. The core issue of EMBA is not quantity but quality.

Mr. Philippe Loesch, Coordinator of Executive Association for Excellence in China echoed. He appealed that through the platform provided by HEC and Executive Association for Excellence, more Chinese businessmen could communicate and cooperate with their peers in overseas in facing hardship. He said that every transnational company should undergo a process of localization, solving the difference of culture and of management while they are stepping into overseas market. A top rank EMBA could play an important role in shortening the distance and bridging the gap, which can help Chinese businessmen merge  quickly into the global market. Ms. Kristen Neymarc, Associate Director of Executive Education International Programs, HEC Paris, assures that the faculty of the HEC Paris EMBA in China (Shanghai Class) is exactly the same as EMBA programs of HEC Paris anywhere in the world, in order to keep the strict requirements on issuing HEC Paris EMBA degree.

The Chinese EMBA market has become a hot zone recently with increasingly fiercer competition. Because of Chinese economic growth, more overseas prestigious schools are longing for opportunities these few years. HEC Paris was only one of them in the queue. The land of HEC Paris will inevitably lead to a new round of competition. Since the market is growing to be white-hot, it is good news to every Wait to Buy. However, thanks to this phenomenon, more and more entrepreneurs, executives can be taught by the world class faculty and get their tailored programs.
