As you might have been aware - In the Financial Times Global MBA ranking released on 29th Jan 2018, Alliance Manchester Business School is ranked overall 4th in the UK, 10th in Europe and  for Career Development prospect 18th globally, based on the changes in the level of seniority and the size of the company before and after the MBA study.

Unlike specialist masters degrees, MBA is a career-oriented programme. The question is often: How can you set yourself so that the investment creates a good return for your career? Here are some tips.

Step 1: Keeping your brand fresh.

Keeping your brand fresh is about developing new skills, but also the understanding to articulate them. Regularly reflect on your personal development, recognize your progress and shortcomings. Engage the resources that is available to you ? often what you need is already accessible to you if you look.  Pursue projects and courses that will help fill in any gaps you have. Take these actions so that you equip yourself with the necessary skills.

Step 2: Acquiring market knowledge and visibility.

Your personal brand does not keep in a vacuum - it is crucial to maintain the knowledge and continue to build your network. We live in an era where people are more easily connected than ever. The ability then to build and utilize the network to help your personal brand recognized will impact greatly.

Step 3: Setting your goals.

After maintaining your personal brand and the ability to articulate it, you continue to build your knowledge and what next? Like everything else important we do, set short-term and long-term goals. Where are the gaps in your brand offering and how can you fill them? What’s your strategy and who are your advocates. Double-check how you are getting on doing the first two steps.

Step 4: Getting your brand out there.

As recruiters say,” the best candidates are never those looking jobs.” The more senior you get, the bigger the move you are going for, the more likely it comes to you. Get your public job profile updated and go networking.

To assist career development, access to quality resources and services is vital. If you wish to know more about Career Service for Manchester MBA students, it is available on 4 levels: access to career resource platforms; skills seminars; tailored topical workshops, and one-on-one careers coaching.
