Fudan University's School of Management (FDSM) was formally accepted by Partnership in International Management (PIM) as a member school last month.

Founded in 1973, PIM is a consortium of leading international business schools around world. As a member of PIM, FDSM will create new partnerships with more international business schools and strengthen those already in existence. Fudan MBA students have more opportunities to study overseas. The PIM member schools from different areas in the world offer a platform for MBA students to be professional managers with deep understanding of China's market.

"Getting internationalized is a strategic approach for Chinese business schools to catch up to, and even surpass, those mature old schools,'' said Professor Lu Xiongwen, dean of the Fudan University's School of Management.

"Promoting foreign exchange will endow our faculty and students with broad global vision. That is greatly needed for the improvement of Chinese MBA education."

Every year, more than 70 Fudan MBA students spend one or two semesters at the top business schools in Europe, the US, Australia and other regions. Meanwhile, about 80 foreign students study at Fudan University with diversified work and learning experience as well as culture background, which make the Fudan MBA classroom a global village.

Another platform which helps Fudan MBA students to develop and expand their global professional network is the Wharton-Fudan Global Consulting Practicum (GCP) launched in 2005.

The Wharton-Fudan GCP is designed to bridge the academic curriculum and international business worlds. The team which comprises 10 MBA students from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Fudan University, together with their instructors, provides consultancy service covering all aspects on strategy, marketing, operation and finance for senior managers of Chinese companies who want to enter or improve their position in the North American market.

By providing students with resources and guidance, the Wharton-Fudan GCP endeavors to create an academic, social and ethically-minded atmosphere which cultivates experiential and dynamic learning for MBA students.

At present, 10-15 percent of Fudan IMBA full-time students are from abroad. Many international applicants plan to pursue further career development in China, which demands not only managerial knowledge and personal capabilities, but also proficient Mandarin, in-sight understanding of Chinese culture and the local network.

Fudan International MBA Program, a full-time English program, collaborates with MIT Sloan School of Management in the fields of curriculum development, faculty training and student exchange. Based on FDMS's good cooperation relationship, Fudan IMBA Program offers corporate courses such as Citi Banking Course, Standard Charted Banking Course and Intel Innovation Course.

Thus, the students will gain various exposures to the real business world. They can broaden their perspective through Fudan's extracurricular activities like study trips, global consulting projects, business competitions and cultural or sports events.

With the focus on students' participation and internationalization, Fudan IMBA Program enjoys a reputation as one of the most excellent international MBA programs in China.
